People have found something else to do with these stamps. Instead of using for mailing, some people have turned to store it as an enthusiasm, which has got developed as stamp collection hobby.

By mistake, some people think that an individual who is known as philately is the proper name of stamp collector. This concept is wrong and this title is given for those who study about the stamps and things related to it.

Stamp collecting can begin by collecting the stamps from the letters the person has received. Some may come from local place while others can come from friends and family, residing at abroad. Another way to add stamps to the collection is going to the post office and buying it in bulk.

For those who want to specialize in old stamps or want to collect those from other countries, it will be a good idea to join philatelic exhibitions and bid at auctions. By looking at it closely, the person might be able to find some good deals, which will be a good addition to the collection.

Acquiring stamps is just one of the main things that stamp collectors to do. The other thing is to taking care of the collection. The proper way to take care of the collected stamp is to keep in an album. Only one side of the page should be used to avoid the disturbance to the others collections. If the collector is need of more space, he can provide a plastic sheet between the pages and keep the stamps in the other side also.

Stamps must be handled with care. The hands may be dirty or oily, so it is a good idea to use tongs when handling it to avoid any damage to the stamps. A tong looks like tweezers but it is not the same thing. The edges of this object are thinner to hold a stamp easily.

The proper way to remove the stamps from envelopes is to cut a small portion of the surrounding area and put it in warm water. After dissolving the lotion used for pasting it on the envelop, the collector should use tongs to extract it from the paper support and hold it in the air for some time to dry before inserting it in the album.

There are many things that could do harm to the stamps. The most common is sunlight. The hot rays of the sun may fade the colors, the gum at the back may stick hard to the album, and the removal will be difficult. This is to teach you the importance to store the album in room temperature.

When working, it will be a good idea to not to bring food or drinks in that area, which could cause for the damage of the stamps. Smokers should also avoid smoking in the room since the smell could be transferred to the collection.

Stamp collecting is a nice hobby that anyone can engage in. This activity is considered as one of the most popular hobby in the world. The person should just devote some time and effort in looking out for old and new ones and taking proper care of it.
